2D Illustrations

The following 2D illustrations were created using a variety of traditional and digital media

Skull

Illustration

The illustration of the skull shown on the left was completed using a combination of watercolour and coloured pencil built up in layers.
The temporalis and masseter muscles were then added in Adobe Photoshop to further contextualise the piece.

Scapula

Illustration

Both of the illustrations of the scapula shown here were completed in Adobe Photoshop. The aim of this illustration was to depict the different transparencies within the bone. This transparency was then echoed with the "ghosting" of the humerus and clavicle, added to depict how the scapula articulates with surrounding bones.

femur

Illustration

This femur was drawn from life using tonal pencil and graphite powder. Great attention was paid to the minute structures present on this bone in order to give the illustration a realistic feel.
Muscle attachments were then overlayed in Adobe Photoshop, allowing the viewer to imagine how this illustration may look in a textbook, for example.

Hand

Illustration

This illustration depicting the various muscles, tendons and blood vessels in the hand was drawn in Adobe Photoshop. It is presented in both black and white and in partial colour. This side by side highlights how the mark-making technique used is able to differentiate between structures as well as colour is able to.

Schistosomiasis Lifecycle and Leaflet

These illustrations were completed as part of a live brief from staff at the School of Life Sciences who requested a lifecycle illustration for the different species of Schistosoma parasites shown to the right. These lifecycles were intended to help explain research completed in this area to wider audiences.
I then adapted this lifecycle into a leaflet explaining what this parasite is and how the university is able to research it - which was intended to spread further awareness about Schistosomiasis. The lifecycles and leaflet were created in Adobe Illustrator and the leaflet mock-ups were created in Adobe Photoshop.

Surgical Instrument Illustration

This illustration was created based on images of surgical instruments. The tools were created using Adobe Illustrator and were intended as a way to practise different techniques within this software.
This poster depicts a historical comparison of instruments, laid out in a manner aiming to fit the style of a museum exhibit.
